Mohammad Ali Rafiee_Rad (Sasan)
First of all, I would like to thank each and every one of you for the emotional and financial support that me and my family have received. You helped us have hope in a very difficult time.
It is clear that without your help, I would not have been able to get the necessary medical attention required for an advanced cancer patient or the emotional strength to go forward.
Your support enabled me to pay for chemotherapy when the state refused to pay for any and all treatment. At that moment, I found myself having to pay for each prescription, which costs $3,843.63 per month, an amount of money that I would have simply not been able to afford on my own .
It all began in December of 2000. I was informed that I no longer qualified for medical coverage. Since then, my family and friends have worked effortlessly in trying to get the coverage reinstated, but with no success.
Most of my doctors refused to see me, knowing my financial and insurance situation, except Dr. Craig Conrath in Reno, Nevada, who has continued monitoring my health up to this day.
Once again, thank you for your help, and if any of you would like to send me email, I will certainly read each and every one and respond to you as my health allows.
Sincerely,
Mohammad Ali Rafiee Rad

Dear friends
What I am experiencing is a tough lesson in life and I have no choice but to deal with it. Every day looking in my kids eyes knowing that I will not be around to protect them and provide for them when they need me the most, causes me a much grater pain than physical pain I am enduring with cancer.
I am not sure how to thank you for visiting my home page but I just wish the circumstances were different and I had a better chance to show you my gratitude. Unfortunately my time is limited and I am not sure if I am ever able to thank you for your help.
God bless all of you and your families,
-Sasan

Mohammad Ali Rafiee-Rad (Sasan) is thirty nine years old Iranian living in America since 1979, married with two beautiful sons, Justin Omid born 05-19-1997 and Austin Hossain born 01-01-1999. He met his wife, Richae Jean Hansen, in May 1996 and they were married shortly thereafter. Mohammad was diagnosed with colon cancer on March 19, 2000 by Dr. Clark of Reno, Nevada. One day while playing with his son Justin, he felt pain in his side. The next day at work he felt pain in the same place in his side and thought the cause was from the previous evening. The pain was still persistent the next day so he visited Dr. Clark for an examination, who ran a sonogram and a catscan. Mohammad was thinking perhaps it was a cracked rib but found to his dismay it was diagnosed as colon cancer. He was rushed to surgery at Northern Nevada Medical Center in Sparks, Nevada on March 22, 2000. Dr. Carpenter at that time removed half of Mohammads' colon. He went on a medical leave from his employer the El Dorado Hotel and Casino in Reno, Nevada. His leave and insurance from the El Dorado Hotel and Casino lasted approximately three months and then he applied for and was accepted by Medicare of Nevada. Chemotherapy followed the first surgery and to date Mohammad has done twenty sessions. On November 30th, 2000 Mohammad had his second surgery in San Francisco , California performed by Dr. Warren in which his left lobe and gall bladder were removed. At the same time Dr. Warren installed a pump in Mohammad's lower abdomen as 60% of his liver has been destroyed by tumors. The purpose of the pump is to send chemotherapy treatments direct to his liver, instead of his whole body. The pump is working efficiently and effectively to his liver, however his body is rejecting the treatments. As of January 1st 2001 Medicare of Nevada cancelled Mohammad's insurance as he was over the allotted income by twenty one dollars. He now pays for all his prescriptions out of pocket. On January 17th, 2001 Mohammad meet with Dr. Warren in San Franciso, California for further evaluation and consultation regarding his worsening condition and the news he received was not a good news. Currently Mohammad, his wife, Richae and his family have no means of support or any funds to render for life saving treatments or surgeries.
